James Kerr

Before founding Straw Cage in 2022, James Kerr was known for his boundary-pushing theatre direction. His award-winning productions have been featured and acclaimed around the world for two decades.

James Kerr trained as an actor at LAMDA working in film, television and in theatre. He joined the National Theatre Studio, before starting his directorial career. He has translated, adapted, and produced his own work including plays by Sophocles, Aeschylus, and Marivaux. His work with actors has led to a global reputation for training at the highest level. He was involved as an associate director in the re-opening of the Liverpool Theatre group, Playhouse and Everyman Theatres.

James is currently set to direct Mark J Charney's and Cory Norman's If Christ Was Born in a Barn, Dyin in a Van Ain't So Bad, based on the film You Don't Know Jack starring Al Pacino, Susan Sarandon and John Goodman which received 15 Emmy nominations and won a Golden Globe. It is a UK/US collaborative development project based in London and Marfa, Texas commencing in March 2022.
